Dr Fabien Gouyon (PhD Computer Science, UPF Barcelona; MS Signal Processing, ENSEEIHT
Toulouse; BS Theoretical Physics, UPS Toulouse) is a Senior Research Scientist and Project
Manager at the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit of INESC Porto. He previously worked on Sound and Music Computing at the Music
Technology Group in Barcelona, the Austrian Research Institute for AI in Vienna, CCRMA in
Stanford University, IRCAM and Sony-CSL in Paris. He has published over 40 papers in peer-
reviewed international journals and conferences, published a book on computational rhythm
description and gave the first tutorial on the topic at the International Conference on Music
Information Retrieval in 2006. He is member of the Audio Engineering Society Committee on
Semantic Audio Analysis and an IEEE member. He is the Portugal Delegate on the Management
Committee of the COST IC0601 Action SID on Sonic Interaction Design. He was member of the
research and management board of diverse European-funded projects, among which the SIMAC
project (Semantic Interaction with Musical Audio Contents) and the S2S2 project (Sound to Sense,
Sense to Sound) in which he participated to the writing of the European Roadmap for Sound and
Music Computing, published in 2007.
